USB pass-through fails for FortiGate VM on Proxmox

Hi community,
following excellent articles How to Install a FortiGate Firewall on Proxmox? and Adding FortiGate VM into Proxmox saved me plenty of experimentation.

Subsequently, I discovered a USB pass-through failure on Proxmox (likely, all KVM-based but NOT ESX-based) hypervisor. Via a Support Ticket, Fortinet TAC acknowledged it in Knowledge Base article Technical Tip: USB stick passthrough on Proxmox . Fortinet did not offer commitment to a fix.
