Hello,
PVE 7.0.11
I can passthrough a USB hub as pci and all is ok. Howerver If I try and passthrough a usb device by port or vendor id the drop down list in pve is empty.
Anyone seen this. I am trying to split the ports between two Vm's
Thanks
Paul

Thanks for reply. I thought that so I removed all passthrough of PCI from all guests and rebooted server. I then get the correct list from lsusb. So does this mean that if you passthrough a pci on one machine which is off you cannot passthrough the port to a different machine ? I assumed that if the machine is off the passthrough is released ?
I will check but cant keep rebooting server. I have ordered a pci usb card to resolve.
Thanks

Update. To confirm if you pass through a USB hub as a PCI device to one VM guest. The ports on that device become unavailable to all other guests so you cannot pass through an individual USB port to a different guest. Even if the original guest is not running.

After a device has been passed through (by way of starting the VM), it is not accessible to the Proxmox host when the VM is shutdown. The device is still bound to the vfio-pci driver, ready to be passed to the VM or another VM. You can write a hook script to unbind the device from the vfio-pci driver and bind it to the actual USB driver again, if you need Proxmox to have access to the device.
