Im currently having an issue with a USB Device. Ive tested the external drive on a different pc and it stays connected but when its in the VM it disconnects.

ive checked all my settings within the VM and the config is correct. ive just upgraded to V9 about 60 days ago but since then ive had this one external drive just keep disconnecting at random and now it wont stay on for more then 20 seconds.

see screenshot

is there anything ive got wrong in the config or could it be related to anything within the V9 update.

Currently running 9.2.21 of proxmox.

Hoping to get this resolved soon.

USB drives - particularly spinners - are not really a reliable form of storage. Even for a desktop, much less a server.

If you have a PC that it will stay connected to - set it up as a Samba shared drive and access the files over the network. That's 99% the easiest way to go forward without going down the rabbit hole.

Apart from that, look into NAS storage.

I was actually in the middle of migrating the data from the drive over to the virtual disks when this started happening. As I’ve got my virtual disks setup to have a backup done off site. So it’s a bit more reliable when it comes to HW failures. I can easily get data back.

Instead of passthru to vm, then I would try mounting the disk R/O on the proxmox host (to reduce corruption chance if it disconnects) and transfer files into the vm with e.g. rsync / rclone if you want parallel transfers. Or tar+netcat, or midnight commander.

If it's a windows vm, Winscp with parallel + background transfers. You can also set multiqueue to 3 on the vnics in the proxmox webui

I’ll give that a try and I’ll see what happens

I’ll do the winscp I’ve used it before.. actually forgot about that software.

I’ll reply to the thread if I’ve had any luck. Thanks again for the help.
