Hello everyone,

I want to upgrade a cluster on Proxmox v4 and Debian Jessie directly to v6. Of course, there are sensitive servers. Can i upgrade servers to v6 or is it impossible please ?

Can you recommend me feedbacks or documentation please ?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards. Sébastien.

No, please don't. The upgrade from Proxmox VE 4.4 to 5.4 is pretty straight forward and makes the step from 5.4 to 6.x possible and tested.

The main reason is that the: cluster stack between the 4.x and 5.x is compatible, but not between them and 6.x, and we provide the possibility to upgrade nonetheless only for 5.x: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_5.x_to_6.0#Cluster:_always_upgrade_to_Corosync_3_first

How big is the cluster, what storage does it use? Ceph?

The only officially supported way from 4.x to 6.x directly would be full reinstallation and rebuilding the cluster, with backup and restoring the Virtual Machines and Containers.

So first: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_4.x_to_5.0
Then https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Upgrade_from_5.x_to_6.0

And as always: have tested backups, ideally also play through the update in a test lab setup.

Thanks for your feedback.

We do not use Ceph or ZFS. Just basic FS.
