Hi,

We are running a 3-node cluster of Proxmox VE 6.3.3 with Ceph 15.2.8. We want to upgrade them to the newly released 7.x. Additionally, we want to remove a server from this cluster and add 3 more to them. In total, we would have 5 nodes. Currently, we are using Proxmox backup server 1.1.5. How do we upgrade the backup server as well? Is there any way where we can keep a backup of the backup server before the upgrade?

Can you please suggest how do we proceed?

Hi, there is an upgrade guide for PBS that describes how you can create a backup of your PBS server. If you have spare hardware then you can also sync backups between two PBS servers.

Thanks for your reply.

Currently, we are having a 3-node cluster with Proxmox VE 6.3.3 and Ceph Octopus installed. We want to remove a node from the cluster and add 3 more to them. Eventually, it would become a 5-node cluster.

My questions are:

1) Should we upgrade the cluster from 6.3.3 to 6.4.x first then add 3 nodes to the cluster with Proxmox VE 6.4.x OS installed? Then removing the desired node?

OR

2) We upgrade all 3 nodes to the 7.x, then add 3 more nodes to the cluster with the latest 7.x installed. Then removing the desired node from the cluster?

Additionally, could you please provide a procedure to remove a node from a cluster?
