I'm a bit confused because the webGUI under the Updates has the "linux-image-4.19.0-13-amd64" to install.

Just trying to upgrade my Proxmox node from 6.2-2 to 6.3 but it's wanting to remove a lot of packages, including:

Of course you did a
Code:
apt update
first, don't you? And it did not show any error regarding some repo?

Yes, I updated through the web interface and on the command line, didn't show any obvious errors:

Try the standard debian repo in /etc/apt/sources that comes with a clean Proxmox install, like:
Code:
deb http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian buster main contrib
deb http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian buster-updates main contrib

# security updates
deb http://security.debian.org buster/updates main contrib
This is for an Italian repository, maybe use this and if works (doesn't want to remove fundamental proxmox stuff!!!) find the nearest/best one after that and try again.
Of course keep the "pve-no-subscription" in the separate file. Btw, do you have by chance any "wrong" file there, under
/etc/apt/sources.list.d ?

Looks like it's the same unfortunately:

Why I have just 4 "hit" and you have 12 (hit/get) with apt update? Have you completely replaced your sources.list content with mine? (make a copy and move outside /etc/apt please, just in case).
What is the content of /etc/apt/sources.d ? Any file left there besides the one with the only line about pve-nosubscription?
If you try apt update again (so should find that repository file listing is already up to date) do you have the same output that I have?

Doesn't look like anything is on hold. I don't think any previous package was messed up.

I'm taking a look at packages that were installed/upgraded recently but can't see anything absolutely obvious.

Have you installed Proxmox VE on Debian?

Could you please post the output of the following commands:

Code:
~ dpkg --list | grep linux-image
~ dpkg --list | grep pve-kernel
~ uname -a

Yes, this is a standard installation of Debian with Proxmox VE installed on top.

Hi,

Please uninstall the stock Debian kernel because the upgrade pulls in stock Debian kernel-firmware, which conflicts with the Proxmox VE provided firmware packages that are required by proxmox-ve package.

you can do that by doing `apt remove linux-image-4.19.0-9-amd64` command you could remove the old kernel, after that `apt update && apt full-upgrade`

That seems to have done it, the upgrade didn't want to remove everything. Thanks for your help.

Glad you solved your issue!

Hi,

I have some sort of same issue. When I want to remove linux-libc-dev it proposes to remove very many packages including pve ones.

The status of my computer :
Bash:
# dpkg --list | grep linux-image
rc linux-image-4.19.0-10-amd64 4.19.132-1 amd64 Linux 4.19 for 64-bit PCs (signed)
Bash:
# dpkg --list | grep pve-kernel
ii pve-firmware 3.1-3 all Binary firmware code for the pve-kernel
ii pve-kernel-5.4 6.3-3 all Latest Proxmox VE Kernel Image
rc pve-kernel-5.4.60-1-pve 5.4.60-2 amd64 The Proxmox PVE Kernel Image
rc pve-kernel-5.4.65-1-pve 5.4.65-1 amd64 The Proxmox PVE Kernel Image
ii pve-kernel-5.4.73-1-pve 5.4.73-1 amd64 The Proxmox PVE Kernel Image
ii pve-kernel-5.4.78-2-pve 5.4.78-2 amd64 The Proxmox PVE Kernel Image
ii pve-kernel-helper 6.3-3 all Function for various kernel maintenance tasks.
Bash:
# dpkg --list | grep linux-libc
ii linux-libc-dev:amd64 4.19.171-2 amd64 Linux support headers for userspace development

I don't think this is a real issue but I'd like to get rid of this backage as 1) I don't need it and 2) it relates to an unused kernel version. Any idea ?

Hi,

Post full output of apt update && apt full-upgrade also the your sources grep '' /etc/apt/sources.list*

Thanks for the attention. Here is the requested info :

linux-libc-dev refers to version 4.19.171-2 and pve-kernel is 5.4.x so it may conflict, no ? (not absolutely necessary to remove it, it prevents to regularly update unneeded package ;))
