Hello Proxmox Support,

we want to safe upgrade our system to the newest version.
The challenge ist to upgrade 5 nodes at once with the smallest downtime.

We are afraid that something may go wrong.

we have over 30 Server that are all running.

we also read that there is a new (blue)storage. So we have to know if we can change our current setting with osd and journal to bluestorage.

Is it possible to upgrade one by one or do we have to upgrade all at once.
And is there maybe a chance that we can have a support while we do the upgrade (online)?

It is always good to have backups, if something breaks. ;)

There is no switch to bluestore needed, the filestore backend is still in place. With PVE 5.x the OSD created by default are with bluestore (pveceph help).

The upgrade from PVE 4.x to 5.x is described in the following links. Please read them very carefully!

With the subscription level Basic, Standard and Premium, you are entitled to contact support. We gladly help if there are issues during the upgrade. https://www.proxmox.com/en/proxmox-ve/pricing

Hi,

My recommendation should be (the safest way), if possible, to create an empty 3 nodes cluster in V5 from scratch.
Backup and restore VM one by one. When old nodes are empty add them on the new cluster.

So, we just have to put new OSDs and than we have to replace our old OSD+Journal Disks? Our Journal is a SSD disk and OSD is a HDD (the old configuration befor bluestore).

We saw those upgrade tutorial but the question is still if we can upgrade without any problem ...
maybe we are going to do it like TwiX told us... we willl sooner or later upgrade to 8 or 10 Nodes.

would you recommended this Alwin?

You can keep your OSD setup as is. The filestore backend is just not the default option on OSD creation anymore. See 'pveceph help' for the filestore options.

I don't know, if you will encounter problems on upgrading the system. But, the upgrade tutorials are tested und supported by us.

It's up to you, the tutorial lines out these choices too.
