Hello, I had proxmox VE working on a mini pc. Had it installed on one of the nvme disks. I had to make changes to whole home network and server setup so decided to go for a fresh new installation of Proxmox VE on the same device. installation was quick, however I get no display after reboot. I tried 3-4 times. I get the same outcome. I wonder what I must be doing wrong?

Any suggestions? what all can I debug?

Not sure what you mean by this. Physical attached monitor to the Mini PC shows nothing after install, but does show during initial boot/install?
Is the web-based GUI available on the NW?
Is your server pingable from the NW?
Can you SSH in to the Proxmox server?

You provide NO details - so we're left with just a riddle. The more info you provide - the easier it is to try & help you.

Have you tried ssh'ing into the installation? Does that work?

Hello,
as gfngfn256 pointed out, my bad for not providing more information.
Here is the latest. I managed to get Proxmox node working after a few reboots. However It is not a stable instance. It hangs frequently after I created three LXC (turnkey file server, jellyfin and immich ) and one VM (home assistant), all using readily avaialble scripts.

My base hardware is:
  • minipc based on i3-N305 processor with Intel® UHD Graphics, 16GB DD4 SODIMM,
  • Four 2.5 gbe NICs (two are part of default vmbridge, one is part of another network, one unused for now)
  • storage = 128GB boot M.2 nvme, 1TB second M.2 nvme, 4TB 3.5 inch external SATA connected via USB 3.0
    • two zfs data pools one each for 1TB ssd and 4TB HDD
  • zigbee USB dongle as shared device to VM
Over last few days, I have observed that the server is unstable. It turns off automatically. I had to hard restart it via power cycle. I also had to reboot it a few times via Proxmox GUI.

I have attached the system log over a few hours today.

I am still learning to use Proxmox effectively.

Please help me figure out what's causing the unstability and hopefully a remedy.

Your current issues are completely different from when you started & opened this thread (see OP). This thread is not your portal for all help you require with using PVE! You should open a new thread with your current issues.

all using readily avaialble scripts.
You should not be using ANY scripts to blindly install software - however readily available they are - if you do not know EXACTLY what they do, and then you probably would not need the script anyway. You should search/seek/post your issue with the providers of these scripts.

Check thermals on this computer & PSU, you seem to have a lot connected for a mini PC & probably a larger than expected power-draw; 2 NVMe drives, 4 2.5gb NICs & a 4TB external USB 3 spinning HDD (maybe you have external power for this one?) & a ZIGBEE dongle - that is a lot.

I don't understand what this means.

4TB 3.5 inch external SATA connected via USB 3.0
This is not to be considered a "reliable & constantly available" storage - that can be used for any Proxmox storage. It maybe enough for backups. Note that USB connections (& lately on some kernels specifically USB 3) can be erratic & cause lockups. I definitely wouldn't do ZFS on that drive.

ZFS uses more memory than a regular FS, see here. On that limited 16GB min PC I wonder how you've allocated the RAM between all the guests etc.

zigbee USB dongle as shared device to VM
Again that USB device maybe misbehaving especially in concert with the external USB drive.

Good luck.

You are right. these are proxmox helper scripts that many have recommended in the how to videos. I did try to go through those to find any major issues and did not notice any. I don't think I raised an issue on this forum about the scripts themselves. I just provided that as additional information.

ok will reconsider.

perhaps, will reconsider using both together.

Good luck.
thank you for the help

Did you fix/figure out your problem?
no, not much luck yet. I re-installed Proxmox. faced same challenge as last time. Proxmox did not boot on the first few attempts. Had to start in recovery mode. Now I have created the first VM once again. Proxmox is still not stable. I am not using zfs now and not using external HDD via usb.

Meanwhile, once suggestion was to Go into the BIOS and see if you can turn off watchdog timer. I did not find that option. I have ami bios version ALN4L101

We don't know what HW that mini PC is. But since Proxmox is built on Debian, maybe try running plain Debian on it & see if it is stable.

BTW if this is the device you have - you had better read some of the comments there - especially concerning thermals, power-draw & sketchy BIOS.
