I'm a Windows engineer not an end user so my knowledge of Unreal is not particularly great. I know enough to login and run some test (stat.unit and stat.fps)
So our environment looks like this:
We have a very powerful Dell server with 4 blackwell GPUs in it running Proxmox 9.1.6
We have nVida vGPU sharing software
we have configured a number of VMS (Linux and Windows 11) to run on top of it
we are running a specific recommended nvidia driver for the Proxmox server and the same version for the Windows and Linux VMS (grid driver)
the Linux machines seem to have really great performance, but were having low frame rate in Unreal on Windows. We never really see slightly more then 60 FPS over PCOIP to the systems.
When one of our Unreal people use their own machine under their desk, they can get frame rates of up to 120
What's odd, is the GPU and memory the have been given on the VDI is like 6 times more powerful then the one in their local machine. They believe it's a CPU related issue.
Also for fun, we installed Minecraft and got 600 FPS on the VDI machine, and then Danshan Attack (an Unreal game) and also got high FPS around 120.
So it seems like the VDI machine as configured seems able to do high frame rate, just not in our Unreal editor for some reason.
We also tried both our working Unreal version 5.3.0 and the latest 5.8.x and it didn't seem to make a difference.
I have tried setting different socket amounts and cores, tried affinity and pinning the CPU, tried different OS config on the VM (other, Windows 11, Windows 10)
I confirmed hyperv is off in the Windows VMs and removed the feature.
We have tried hardware "host" and also Epyc-v5
We tried Numa on and off.
We tried turning off and on all the various extra CPU flags that seemed appropriate.
We do have a ticket open with Epic/Unreal but thought I would post here to see if anyone has any ideas.
