Unable to install Oracle database products.

Hi,

I'm really impressed with Proxmox solution because of its friendly interface, KVM-based core. I must say that Proxmox 1.3 works perfectly.

But it's quite weird that Proxmox 1.3 couldn't detect my SATA disk (Hard drive is not supported) -> therefore, it force me to touch version 1.4.

Unfortunately, 1.4 is still beta and works not so good as prior version. In my case, I couldn't install any Oracle database products (Oracle 11g, TimesTen) on Windows Server 2k3 64 bit Enterprise. The installation is started and at the middle of progress, some weird things happen: blue screen with memory dump error, installation is paused forerver ^_^

I'm trying to install 32 bit version of Oracle on Windows Server 2k3 32 bit. The report will come here soon. I hope that coming release version of Proxmox could solve problems and surprise me again.

Regards,

V1.4 beta uses basially the same kernel and the same kvm version, so it is very unlikely that it behaves differently - Are you sure you install with the same settings?

:( I'm really wonder that they are the same. V1.3 cannot detect my SATA, but V1.4 can.

By the way, I want to pronounce a good news, Oracle 32bit and Windows 2003 Enterprise 32bit work perfectly with Proxmox V1.4 beta. If you have no intention to work with more than 3GB-Ram system, it's really a very nice choice.

Thanks,

Good news, the configuration which works well with Oracle 64 bit is as following:
- Hard disks: SCSI - qcow2 - 80GB
- Ethernet devices: rtl8139 - vmbr0
- RAM: 2048
- CPU: 1
- OS: Windows 2003 enterprise 64 bit

But the performance of this configuration is not good as 32 bit Windows' one. The change in speed is significant and can be recognize by your own eyes. :D

why not virtio for disk? scsi is not known to work well here on win2003.

Is it really true? ;)
In fact, I don't know what virtio is? and its performance compared to SCSI or IDE? Do you have any comparison which show me the point?

Today, I tried something new and receive two results: good and bad.
Good one is: I tried iSCSI using openfiler and it work perfectly. Live migration took only 1'30", really impressive!
Bad news is: after clicking twice on delete button of a virtual machine (network problem), this vm becomes 'ghost' one, I can't remove or run it anymore. The obvious bug here is myself ^_^ for clicking too much!
But it will be better if server could lock machine state after the first click, the following click would have no affect.

Thank you and best regards,

Thank you and best regards,

virtio are paravirtualized drivers. just brandnew, not faster than IDE now but uses less cpu power in some situations.

the "ghost": just remove it manually.
delete the corresponding config file /etc/qemu-server/VMID.conf

AFAIK this is fixed with V1.4 - I assume you use 1.3?

Thank you very much! "ghost" has been disappeared! ^_^ I'm using 1.4
