Unable to install or load mod br_netfilter and overlay in container

Hi everyone,

I’m new to Proxmox and have recently installed Proxmox 8.2.0 with kernel version 6.8.4-2. I’m trying to set up k3s in an LXC container because I prefer the lightweight nature of containers over VMs. However, I’m running into issues with the k3s service due to missing modules: br_netfilter and overlay.

I’ve researched extensively and tried over 30 different solutions, including downgrading the kernel to version 6.5.13-5, but the problem persists.

Has anyone else faced this issue or have any suggestions on how to resolve it? I’d greatly appreciate any help or advice!

Hi.

I read several google response with several similar problems. In some point you need to access to kernel libraries or install modules that are missed up on host or unreacheble from LXC. I understood this should be reolves in the Host.
I'm looking for the same solution, evaluationg Proxmox in this arena: LXC conainters.
By the way, when you run the commands on the host, you can see the overlay module but not br_netfilter


For some reason it's seams Proxmox doesn't include this.
I didn't do following idea, but I beleive we can install Proxmox on Debian 12. It's part of the implementation alternatives, but... it's bodering me.. I'm looking for simple solutions for massive deploy k8s onprem..
I'll look forward for advances..

There says... this module is in the kernel, you can check this out with this command: grep 'BRIDGE_NETFILTER' /boot/config-$(uname -r)

Is anyone able to install k3s on proxmox 8.2.0 with kernel version 6.8.4-2?
I am have issues loaded or install br_netfilter and overlay and k3s service is unable to run
I have combed the internet for 2 weeks for all kinds of solution that do not work.

I have been wanting to do the same and try to put everything in LXC and not use VMs so much in a low power cluster, so that the bare minimum resources are used. Have you tried:
