I have a win2003 server vm that boots part way and just freezes with black screen.
I want to select a boot option at startup, but before i can open a vm console it's already got past this stage. also the send ctrl+alt+del button on the console does not work so cannot use this to get back to boot option. any ideas?

you can freeze the CPU at startup, so you can open a console.
(see Virtual Machine Configuration/Options: Freeze CPU at startup)

to continue: go to Virtual Machine Configuration/Monitor and type "c" to continue startup process. now you should have time to press F8 to get windows startup options.

what settings you use for the win2003? 32 or 64 bit?

thanks for this, never knew how to continue after setting it.
WS2003 32bit, starts loading via the windows gui with the rolling bar at the bottom, then just stops. Not sure what do do to recover it now? Tried last known working configuration, no joy, tried safemode - get the same mode text in corner of screen - then freezes.....

can you post your config file of this VM?

see /etc/qemu-server/your-vmid.conf

Proxmox VE version? Do you got this:
Version (package/version/build) pve-manager/0.9/3084
Kernel Version Linux 2.6.24 #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jul 16 18:34:51 CEST 2008

Ok thanks, but could not wait so rebuilt another VM (deleted the problem one). Cheers anyway
