Unable to connect via GUI nor SSH

Hi all,

I'm new to Proxmox coming from VMware. I installed the 8.2.1 and was able to configure 2 VMs. All are working fine for a few weeks until I come back from business trip. I can no longer access it via GUI nor SSH. However, both VMs are running fine and I can access them without any problem.

When trying to connect via GUI, I get the "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE" message. (I'm using Chrome.)

When doing SSH, I can connect but unable to start session. I get "Connection to "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" closed with error: end of file" message.

I use port 8006 for both the webGUI and the SSH.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi @MachoBear , welcome to the forum.

SSH on PVE does not need a custom port specification. Either don't provide one, or use the default 22.

But there can only be one. SSH is probably still on port 22.

yes, you'd need a keyboard and monitor.

Hello bbgeek17, have you tried the following:

1. Have you restarted the machine (physically, since you seem to no longer be able to access it remotely). Since both SSH and the GUI no longer seem to work at all, it might happen that something has crashed, e.g. due to the server running out of memory.
2. Did you try to connect using ssh -v ? This enables verbose messages and might show additional details.
3. Do you have fail2ban enabled on your server? If yes, can you remember its configuration? I was wondering whether you might have locked yourself out after a failed login attempt.
