Ubuntu Desktop in Console

When opening up console, is it possible to view Ubuntu Desktop (GUI) instead of command-line? I used standard Ubuntu 12 template and installed the Ubuntu Desktop package.. or do I need to run a separate vnc server to accomplish this?

if you OpenVZ container, there is no GUI like you expect here. for more details about OpenVZ technologie, see http://openvz.org.
