Trying to add a USB disk for backups and Snapshots

I have a 2T WD disk that I'm adding to Proxmox using a usb to sata kit.

When I connect the drive it show in pve under disks but shows as unknown. When I try to Initialize Disk with GPT I get an error "command '/sbin/sgdisk /dev/sde -U R' failed: exit code 3"



Is there a way to get around this?

One remark about your "snapshot" part of the question: You cannot have Snapshots on another storage as your data, you just can have backupts there. Snapshots also rely on underlying storage configuration.

Hello, I followed the above link and installed in pve last week. This morning I thought too try it out with a reboot. Now Proxmox will not start.

Plugged a monitor in and it is in emergency mode. I'm not sure what to do from here. Is there a way to remove the packages or look at a log to see what happened?
