Hi!

I have a Dell Wyse 5070 with a 128GB M.2 SSD and a 8TB USB drive mounted via bind mount to two containers (PLEX, SMB) and some other LXC (pi.hole, iobroker,...) with only CT volumes.
Now I want to upgrade my M.2 storage to 1TB. I think the easiest way is to backup all container, reinstall proxmox to the new M.2 an recover all container from the backup.
But: How can I backup (or transfer the backups after) to my USB storage? I have no additional drive with no data to use in proxmox.

An other question: Can I use only a part of the 1TB in proxmox? Eg. half of the disk for proxmox/lvm the other part to bind mount to use it in more than obe container.

CU,

Ok, first question answerd: The location of the backup files is /var/lib/vz/dump/
I assume I can copy the backups to the USB drive and copy back to the new procmox install and restore them.

Is this correct?

Depending on what storage type the hdd is configured in (check under datacenter > storage > click on your hdd storage
You might be able to set it as backup storage, then you can directly choose it as storage destination when creating backups

I would just clone the disk to the bigger one, resize it using a live cd (Gparted), then replace it as the boot disk. I wouldn't even bother reinstalling Proxmox.
