Hi all
I`m new on PVE & PBS (just one week) but a very old guy from datacenter world.
I`d like to understando how to use PVE+PBS + cloud to create a perfect solution for SME ( small medium enterprise).
Let`s start thinking about a <20 computers , dual internet links.
I'd like to have no SPOF (single point of failure) so I`d start with 2 servers (nodes) , let`s say one is a HP DL20 4x SFF 1TB SSD and another is HP Microserver or a Dell Optiplex (3080 micro ou SFF) with 2x 2TB SSD. All hardware is connected to a SINGLE managed switch (HP1920).
If server hardware is enterprise level and with APC UPS to keep them safe, I hope hardware is covered.
Now I install PVE and do a cluster with 2 nodes. On those Datacenter cluster I start creating VMs
1x linux distro for file/apps
1x pfSense for firewall
+ any other VMs as required
But now I need to do auto backups , so I may need a PBS ou other way.
I`d like to have hourly backups (snapshots??) done inside LAN (on PBS??) and copy (sync?) to external cloud (I know about WASABI $6/TB offer of cloud space).
Hardware failures are a problem, but with soft RAID on linux I can survive them (HAve do before!), but a ramsomware is another problem.
So I`d like to have a daily/weekly/monthly backups on immutable cloud storage (S3 on Wasabi??).
I just do not understand if I should have another hardware (a old HP microserver G7 for example) just to run PBS and let PBS take care of external sync to me...
or
if should I do external backups directly from PVE to cloud (maybe using CEPH)
or
if should I use RCLONE (or RSYNC) tool and send backup files to cloud.
Anyone has tips about "best" options aabout these ?
