At 03:15 last night, one of my logical volumes on my proxmox server suddenly stopped working. It's status swapped to "unknown". Thing is, I was fast asleep at the time, not doing anything of note on the Proxmox VE.

I tried running lsblk and the disk isn't even showing up. Is it toast? It's just a few months old, so should be well inside of warranty, but I want to be sure it's not a software thing before I send a warranty claim.

Data wise it's not much of a problem. Everything is backed up daily so data loss is minimal even if it's proper dead.

edit: Forgot to mention there's this similar thread, however the problem there seems to be an active action done by the user, so I don't think it applies to my problem: https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/s...ch-logical-volume-local-lvm-local-lvm.144370/

Hi,
please share the system logs/journal from around the time of the issue.

For example, journalctl --since "2026-03-29 02:00:00" > /tmp/journal.log

Right around the time the issue appeared, a bunch of errors on the nvme drive obviously start appearing. Nothing obvious going on in proxmox, it just suddenly starts getting overwhelmed with errors related to the nvme drive. I've attached a file with 1000 lines from just a few minutes before the error until a few minutes after the error started.

edit: log file removed

Well, it started working again after a full power down of the system, including unplugging the power cable, then opening the system up and wiggling the nvme a little. Unlikely that the wiggling did anything, it was probably the power reset that did it. Don't think I'll be trusting that drive going forward, but now it's simple enough to move anything I need off of it at least.
