I've been using tape autoloaders with other backup products for a long time. We've been using SAS and have never had any problems with it.
We are working on a new build based on PBS and are looking at options to make cabling more manageable.
One option is Fiber Channel, which I think should work the same as SAS, but without the bulky cables. Is there any FC specific issues or challenges that I should be aware of?
Another option I stumbled upon while looking at hardware options is that there is a company than makes an ethernet iscsi to sas bridge that specifically targets tape drives. Such as device would eliminate the bulky cabling at the server, and allow us to have the tape drives located in a different building than the repository server, reducing the chance of a disaster impacting both. Has anybody tried such a device with proxmox backup server?
Thanks,
Erik
