Hi,

I was able to purchase a small tape library for my home lab to use with my PBS. So far it has been working flawlessly.

But today, I thought it a good idea to clean the drive. So I imported a cleaning cartridge, unloaded the current tape from the drive and clicked on Clean Drive in the PBS GUI.

This is the output:

Bash:
2023-10-14T12:22:28+02:00: Starting drive clean
2023-10-14T12:23:24+02:00: TASK ERROR: unload drive failed - Not Ready, Additional sense: Cleaning cartridge installed

So what does this mean?

Did the cleaning itself succeed but something isn't working to unload the cleaning cartridge? Or did the cleaning also not succeed (I would expect some sort of statement to the effect that it went through)?

And what might be the problem?

Thanks!

probably the cleaning was not done yet (and pbs did not detect that right?) what changer/drive do you use?

did it finish in the meantime and does it work again, or did it stay in this state?

Tried again today (did not try in the meantime). Same behavior: Came back very quickly with the same error message. Pretty sure no cleaning was done.

So what does "Cleaning cartridge installed" mean?

If it said "No cleaning cartridge installed" - that would make sense (although I do have one in the library). But why tell me that there is one???

the error does not come from us but from sgutils (that does not exclude a mistake there of course)
can you provide the output of

Code:
proxmox-tape changer status <changername>
pmtx status --changer <changername>

?

Also tried a different (new) cleaning tape. This is the result.

can you try to unoad/eject the cleaning tape from the drive?

also can you maybe check if there is some kind of 'auto cleaning' feature activated/deactivated ?
