Syslog SMART temperatures seem to be much higher than Disks screen SMART temperatures.

I am getting syslog messages such as:
Nov 18 08:18:34 leghorn smartd[1595]: Device: /dev/sda [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 114 to 115 Nov 18 08:18:34 leghorn smartd[1595]: Device: /dev/sdc [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 154 to 158 Nov 18 08:18:34 leghorn smartd[1595]: Device: /dev/sdd [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 154 to 158 Nov 18 08:48:33 leghorn smartd[1595]: Device: /dev/sda [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 115 to 117 Nov 18 08:48:33 leghorn smartd[1595]: Device: /dev/sdd [SAT], SMART Usage Attribute: 194 Temperature_Celsius changed from 158 to 154

But, looking at the Disks SMART display, I get numbers like this, which are typical across all 10 drives:

At the moment, the drives are under pretty heavy load over an extended period. They are all WD Red Plus drives running in (2) 5-bay USB (3.1 gen 2) docking stations. I was questioning the ventilation in the docking stations until I saw the discrepancy between syslog and Drives display.

Running PVE 7.4-17.

  • "Normalized value", commonly referred to as just "value". This is a most universal measurement, on the scale from 0 (bad) to some maximum (good) value. Maximum values are typically 100, 200 or 253. Rule of thumb is: high values are good, low values are bad.
