switching from VMWare to PVE, find myself confused with the networking differences (vmbr vs port groups and vSwitches)

As the title says, I'm switching from ESXi to PVE.

In my ESXi system, I used port groups and vswitches to have networks between VMs that were isolated from any physical network that left the host. It appears proxmox's networking configuration requires a bit more knowledge about what I suspect would also be the under-workings of the port groups and vSwitches in ESXi...

So in other words, if I want to have one VM with two NICs, one that is connected to the base network of the host at vmbr0 and another NIC that connects to a network that is isolated from the base network, how would I go about doing that? and in a fashion where I can have other VMs connect to the isolated network?

A more specific case is if I want the one VM connected to the main network to be acting as a router for the isolated network, where a bunch of VMs have their only network connection- how do I do this?

Thanks!

It turns out I missed the auto start checkbox AND the apply configuration button . nothing to see here...
