you're posting in the Proxmox Backup Server forum, so I assume that you mean if you can back up a dmg file?
The general answer would be yes, as long as the backup client is running on a support platform it can back up pretty much any file.
Otherwise, please share some details with what you want to achieve exactly.

Ah, that's quite a different question that uploading a .dmg file asked in the Proxmox Backup Server sub forum..
So, as this is about Proxmox VE and macOS I'd move the thread and give it a more meaningful title?
And FWIW, there are various tutorials for this all over the internet, nothing official from our side as it is a bit more involved and might not be allowed by apple to have an official guide.
