Hello all,

after reading lot of articles I decided to give PBS a try. Really:

1. installation and configuration as an PVE VM works easy including update to 1.0-5
2. effort; 30 minutes including NFS Target implementation
3. Integration into PVE really easy.
4. First Backup of all my CT/VM are now finished after around 7h (around 3,5TB)

Question:
For Linux CT/VM I am able to take a look into disks in a folder view and download single files. Is there a mistaken confioguration on my side for Win2019 VM? I am not able to explore the disks. Only download/ restore the disk.

I am also interested on this. Thought I don't think so due the fact of not showint the browse icon for windows OS (neither win 10).

Hi,
you can only explore container backups, because they are file system based. For VMs, backups are block based, so there is no trivial way to do this, but you can try the backup client's map command.

EDIT: To avoid misunderstandings, all PBS backups are actually chunk based. What I said above is true when you abstract away the chunking.

you are absolutely right. Is this feature on the roadmap? Or are there any LXC templates with windows available?

LXC templates run on the same kernel as the host, so unless Windows switches over its kernel (or some fancy technology comes along), you're out of luck there. We do plan to add backup clients for other operating systems, but I cannot really say how long that will take. With such a client, you could then do a file-level backup from within the guest.
