Has anyone installed installed Proxmox on a Stratus ztC server? VMWare and HyperV are listed as being supported but no mention of Proxmox.

Thanks

Hello,

You raise a very interesting topic. (in short, I can't give you a positive nor hopeful response).

AFAIK, this problem has not yet been resolved.

I'm sure there are more interested people and companies for this proposal.

However, the context in which one considers Stratus hardware is in most cases a pricy environment. This reduces the potential candidate pool. Few people/developers will have "a Stratus lying around" for OS development/patch/test purpose. OS testing/installing/patching etc... is an activity that won't be advisable running in parallel with other (presumably mission critical) processes.

One _could_ envision a scenario where the (production) processes only run during a specific period/timeslot. Outside that timeslot, the hardware could than maybe be (temporarily) repurposed for this type of experiments. A tweak where one switches out harddisks, and reboot/test on a separate set of disks (or even on a single slice). BUT if one could turn off the (actual production) service/hardware for some period, it's likely one would not need to invest in a Stratus environment...
Also it seems ill-advised to (repetitively) turn off/turn on again this type of (potentially long running systems) and or often disconnect/reconnect hardware, each physical manipulation risks to increase physical wear and introduce additional potential issues.

Stratus (hardware) is available with native (Open)VOS, vmware (vsphere), windows, and RedHat(!) Linux.
The latter has a number of "special" extensions drivers and some applications, to interact with the specifics of the hardware (fault tolerant).

If it were possible to install and run Proxmox (Debian) on the hardware, the advantage of the hardware (99.99999 availability), will very probably not be available without these specialities (extensions).
I presume redhat (and Stratus) composed these extensions in mutual colaboration (and investment), probably also under specific NDA's. They won't be pushing these upstream any time soon.

Deploying and running the pve specific _executables_ on the existing Stratus RedHat installation then, this will also be troublesome. somewhere I already encountered posts of people talking about running ProxMox on an (arbitrary) RedHat distribution. RedHat has the habit of doing system interactions "the RedHat way", so pve interaction with network and other system settings will require proxmox patching etc.

But hey, if anybody else reads this and has stratus and time to spare... good luck! and keep us informed. We'll gladly consume the additional information.
