[SOLVED] strange issue during booting from usb flash drive

Hello.

I apologize in advance if you decide this is not a Proxmox issue but rather grub2 or kinda. I faced it during booting Proxmox only.

I have a server - Supermicro SYS-5016I-MTF. When I'm booting Proxmox from USB flash drive, I'm getting Grub2 error 22.

The most strange thing is that if I perform a delay before actual booting (by choosing to pop-up a boot menu during POST and waiting for several seconds), Proxmox is booting without issues.

Any ideas how to fix that?

My mistake. USB drive was not the 1st boot device. Please, close or delete this thread.

Does booting from USB work OK? I don't think Proxmox is optimised for booting from USB, is it? Surely the number of writes to logfiles etc will wear out a USB flash drive pretty quickly - or am I mistaken here?

Yeah, it works pretty nice. Of course, I had to tune up the system to avoid unwanted writes to the flash drive. I used following thread for the setup (thanks to those guys!): http://forum.proxmox.com/threads/10414-Proxmox-boot-from-usb-pen-drive

And before that I had a hard time trying to find the fastest flash drive in my drawer
