Hello everyone,
I am starting out in the Proxmox 9.1 field and coming from VMware, I am a bit lost... To begin with, I have a cluster to create with 2 Lenovo SR650 hosts, 480 GB NVMe SSDs, and an 18TB Lenovo DE2000h SAS storage array. I would like to create storage on my array that can be shared between the two hosts and be able to migrate VMs between hosts. For backups, I have a Veeam V13 server. What is the best type of storage in my case? Thanks in advance and sorry if this has already been discussed.

Hi @CIRE, welcome to the forum.
The best _supported_ option is LVM. There are multiple articles that go over the details of the configuration. We wrote one that is iSCSI oriented, however beyond actual physical connectivity the steps to bring up Multipath and LVM are the same for SAS:

Just to be sure; if you are going for a two node Proxmox cluster you also need a separate Q-Device for quorum.

How much redundancy would you like to have? Raid5/6 don't have the best IOPS for VMs but RAID1/10 do not have the best usable space and RAID0 has no redundancy at all.

Thank you, I have 8 disks of 2.4TB and I would like good performance and a spare. So a RAID6 or 5 would satisfy me, I think.

But RAID5/6 probably does not give good performance (in terms of IOPS, which you need for multiple VMs trying to use the drives at the same time). I though I mentioned that in my post.

Raid10 it is, multiple mirrors of two disks.

Plus regularly (usually daily) backups, of course.
