status running(io-error)

A VM running a server that we use, stopped responding.

I got into ProxMox, and the vm was showing a status of "io-error". It was not allowing me to restart it.

Eventually I was able to stop it.

Now it is getting stuck at Booting from Hard Disk and it is still getting stuck at io-error.

What does io-error mean?

that the underlying storage has some error (broken hardware, outage, complete overload, ...). the hypervisor logs might give some indication.
