Startup of Nagios 4.4.7 in LXC Container (SLES 15 SP4) fails to start - problems with libssl?

Hi

As described above, I'm seing some problems when starting Nagios within an LXC container - when starting the following error is seen in /var/log/messages on the hostmachine:

• nagios[5702] general protection fault ip:7f121debf0fa sp:7ffc5ddee238 error:0 in libssl.so.1.1[7f121de7c000+90000]

The host is running the following version:

• pve-manager/7.1-7/df5740ad (running kernel: 5.13.19-2-pve)

Any ideas?

i'd try (in no particular order):

checking the memory
checking the disk
checking the installed packages in the container (e.g. on debian this can be done with 'debsums') or however you installed it there

Sorry for the late reply - was on a prolonged weekend

• Memory is good (tried to double the amount of RAM - no difference)
• Disk space is good (no disk on the LXC is above 9%, 14% on the host)
• The package installed on the LXC is "libopenssl1_1-1.1.1l-150400.7.7.1" - and is checked out ok

i actually meant checking the memory for errors (e.g. with memtest)
same for disk, usage is not really relevant, more if the disk (or controller/cable) itself has errors

Hi Dominik

Sorry my bad - I have a small test-setup with multiple hosts, and I have tried to migrate the container to another host, and other storage without any changes...

But by luck I stumbled over at post in Nagios Communities, and by disabling the auto update in the nagios.cfg all problems seem to have been solved... dunno why - but I guess it's safe to say you are welcome to close the case.
