Hi,

I just installed pbs and tried to find any 'howto' on using the pbs-zfs-dataset for a zfs replication or backup job.

The zfs-pool with several datasets is created by controller passthrough within a VM. As much as I understand it, I cannot backup the zfs-pool or the datasets the way proxmox and pbs work together.

Is there a way to get zfs replication setup between the VM and pbs? Do I have to use ssh?

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi,
PBS is storage agnostic and there is no way to use ZFS replication for it. PBS either creates block level backups (for VMs) or file level backups, both via a stream of chunks.
You could try using pve-zsync from within the VM and use some ZFS file system on your PBS server as a target. Note however that you won't be able to use any PBS features for those replicated datasets.
