[SOLVED] SSDs could not be found after upgrade

Hi,

today I wanted to upgrade my cluster to PVE 7 and before I wanted to upgrade to the last version of PVE 6.
But on two hosts of my clusters LVM thin volumes on SSDs cannot be detected anymore.
Other SSDs with LVM thin are there.

As one can see, it is detected "[sdd] Attached SCSI removable disk" but it get's lost somewhere.
For the OS "/dev/sdd" does not exist (not fdisk, lsblk,...)

First I tried to go back to the old kernel "5.4.189-2-pve" but no luck there... there is exactly the same problem.
Any ideas?

what ssds do you use and can you post the output of 'lsblk' and 'dmesg' ?
 
Hi,

we use Samsung SATA and m2 SSDs mixed types:
SAMSUNG MZ7KH960HAJR
SAMSUNG 860 PRO, 970 PRO
The missing SSD is a SATA 860 Pro (I guess, because at the moment I have no physical access to check).

lsblk does not show the ssd (/dev/sdd) :

afaics from the dmesg the disks are:

sda: WDC WD40EFRX-68N
sdb: SAMSUNG MZ7KH960
sdc: Samsung SSD 860 PRO
nvme: ?? ( i guess the 970 pro) ?

so you said the 860 pro is missing, but it's there as sdc ?

yes it looks like the device name has changed from sdd to sdc...
On the second host it is excatly the same.
Never had this before.

What is the way to change the devicename in lvm?

I found it...
There was a filter defined on /dev/sdc in /etc/lvm.conf.

        global_filter = [  "r|/dev/sdc|", ....

After adapting the filter, the thin volume is back again... oh man.:mad:

Before /dev/sdc was the cdrom/dvd drive and therefore a filter was defined long ago to avoid those lvm messages "/dev/xxx: open failed: No medium found".
But during the last upgrade the devicenames swapped (I do not know why...) and the lvm filter did it's best :eek:

The problem was "semi-home-made"...
