Hello everyone. There was a question about the Trim function for SSDs in Proxmox. Is it necessary and how to configure it? In my case, Raid 1 is built on the 2 SSDs. Are there any recommendations for optimization inside Proxmox itself or maybe inside virtual machines stored on SSDs.

My data sotorage configured as lvm thin. Guest system now Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. Virtual controller set as Virtio SCSI. Does is correct? Or i may setup another controller type?

This one support TRIM, but the VM still needs to send TRIM (discard) commands.

I check of one server by command

fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

and result is DisableDeleteNotify = 0 Thats signalling of TRIM is enable. Does i need emulate SSD for guest? Or just activate discard in options VM?

Some guest operating systems may also require the SSD Emulation flag to be set.
And Windows is one of those.

Update: Seems like I was wrong. I just tested this on an lvm-thin storage: Two Windows 10 VMs, each with a disk with SCSI and discard=on but only one VM/disk with SSD emulation. On both VMs deleting a big file instantly led to a decreased Mapped size in lvdisplay for the logical volume. Additionally, in their drive options both Windows installations report the drive to be suitable for thin provisioning.

Ok. If i correctly understanding Proxmox may direct access to diks. If disks configured as Raid, not HBA - TRIM/Disacard will be not working?

This is up to the RAID controller and may be configurable on the controller itself.
