it looks like spamassasin is using the spamhaus rbl to preform checks against the headers of emails.

are you able to configure these settings anywhere.

spamhaus is emailing me complaining that im outside of there fair use policy (and want $$$ that i do not plan on giving) and i dont even have them configured as an rbl (but i think spamassasin uses them anyway)

i am running a local resolver also.

is there any way to have spamassasin use another rbl for this?

i like the idea of checking all of the servers it passed through for any on a blacklist.

will proxmox overwrite these files or is there a way to edit spamassassin settings that wont get overwritten on updates?

is it common to need a spamhaus subscription to use proxmox?

i put
dns_query_restriction deny spamhaus.com
in /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf

i am assuming i dont have to restart any services for this change to take effect as i dont see a spamassassin service, im guessing you just invoke it for every email.

afaik these shouldn't. there are some that can be configured with the templating system (https://pmg.proxmox.com/pmg-docs/pmg-admin-guide.html#pmgconfig_template_engine) but the local.cf shouldn't be one of them

this solely depends on the mail volume and how many requests are made (if i may ask, what is your daily mail volume?)

it may be necessary to restart the pmg-smtp-filter since that uses the spamassassin libraries directly

i would think i don't do much email by todays standards but i looked at the numbers and they are higher then i thought at around 50k emails a day.

with about 60% marked as junk.

either way PMG has been doing its job really well and we have been happy with it, we will be buying a subscription soon.

thanks for your help!
