Howdy all!
Newbie here! Can't believe how long Proxmox has been around, but I only heard about it a few months ago. I have created a few VMs (not using most because I was spending so much time trying to get HA to work the way I need).
There are a few VMs I tried to create but had to delete because they would reboot after a few mins constantly. I just installed pfSense yesterday but cannot complete configuring it because it constantly reboots after 5 or 6 minutes.
Why does this happen with some VMs? This is my 2nd time trying to use pfSense and the same thing happens.
I'm running it Proxmox on an older system someone gave me. Had intended to run a MediaPC, but no didn't.

Thanks!

Do the VMs really reboot or just stop? Check the syslog of your PVE host and guestOS at that time.

I just installed pfSense yesterday but cannot complete configuring it because it constantly reboots after 5 or 6 minutes.
Often this is because people have installed third-party monitoring software that cannot see that the VMs are running and restarts them. It will surprise you how often people forget that they installed that (or followed a guide that told them to install it and they did not know what is was)...

EDIT: Turns out it was third-party scripts that the admin forgot about:
Think I found it! When I setup proxmox few months ago i used a lot of the ttceck scripts. Don't recall using the monitoring one, but looks like I did. I disabled it about 20 mins ago and no more reset of the vm.

I saw something about that yesterday, but I don't think I have installed such a thing. Thanks though. Appreciate it.

Uhm, how do i do that? LOL. Although, I watch them crash and reboot all over again (at least it's what I know rebooting to be)

When troubleshooting "I don't think" is not dispositive. Be sure. (ETA: Such "helpful" scripts, installed and forgotten, are by far the leading cause of VM's rebooting after a constant interval of five minutes).

To view syslog click Datacenter>Host>System>Syslog in the GUI. How to check in the VM depends on the OS you have installed in there.

Totally agree about "I don't think" not being helpful when trying to troubleshoot. I will peek around more. If this means anything...just noticed that the 'summary' page says pf uptime is just over 2 days. This coincides with when I created it. So, it's not actually crashing? I'm more confused than ...
Running proxmox on an MX Linux laptop.
That's right! In the gui doesn't show anthing. I did look through a few times ...i had forgotten to mention.

I could very well be that the virtual machine has been running two days and the operating system inside it has been rebooting continuously. Maybe it's an incompatibility between the VM settings and pfSense (FreeBSD)? Could you share the VM configuration file?

The log gui shows all VMs are resetting every few minutes, but then status beside it says "OK". Home Assistant is one of the VM's never experienced any issues when logged into HA web gui though.

I feel soooo useless! How don't know how to do that. Complete newb here.

root@Neo:/etc/cron.d# ls

no crontab for root
