Software RAID on Additional Discs

Hi.

I am just about to install Proxmox VE on a machine here at home. I bought 3x 3TB WD RED discs, and it was my plan that these should run in software RAID. But now I read that PVE does not support that. How come?

My plan is to install PVE on one disc, and then setup the 3 RED discs in software RAID5, and the primarily use that for my file-server. I got plans for a game server, it was my plan that it could be on the same disc as PVE.

Will that setup still give me any problems? I am asking because I don't want to run PVE on a software RAID, I just want one of my VMs to run with some data security.

I've read too, that using an SSD is a overkill as system disc. Will I not be able to tell the difference, when running, from my SSD and a regular disc?

Last question; Is it easy to resize VMs virtual discs in Proxmox, or is it practical impossible?

these disks are very slow. combined with mdraid you will not see great performance.

Its very easy, see http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Resizing_disks

I've read that, but I don't think it provide me with any answer wether it will be a problem running it as "additional discs". As I read it, and the guide they link to, that is regarding running PVE on a software RAID disc.

Sorry, I may have not have been totally clear on what I meant. I would like to use those 3 discs, in software RAID(if it can work), as main storage in a file server, not necessarily as system discs.

The PVE server I am setting up is a little home project, for fun, and for learning. Theres is no absolute requirement of 99,99% uptime, plus my budget isn't endless. Because of that I think that the last 4 items on the recommended-lists, is kind of overkill. I see though, why it is recommended in a professional setup.

Though I read those recommended settings as an SSD as system disc will be fine, and no big overkill.

Thank you.
