SNMP Monitoring

Hi Team

what's the recommended way to monitor PMG?

We where going to download and setup SNMP to monitor CPU, Storage, Memory from PRTG or other monitoring system.

Are there any recommendations or does PMG already have a monitoring system or SNMP setup?

this is a preliminary question to start investigations on the best way to deliver this requirement.

Hi,

PMG has its own usage statistics, so maybe they use their own SNMP setup to fetch such details, but I'm honestly not aware where to find or with which settings.

You could use any Monitoring Tools. We use Check_MK.

I believe the primary question is, does a SNMP server already exist and how to access?

PMG does not install snmpd per default and has no integration with it.
You can query the API for all metrics available in the GUI and integrate it with your monitoring solution.

I personally like and use Check_MK as well, but haven't checked if someone wrote a plugin/check for PMG

Hi Stoiko

do you or have you used Check_MK?
Or was it just for testing?

We are currently looking for an open source alternative to PRTG which we currently use for our VMware environment.

We have a new business starting up which is focused on supporting open source solutions and unfortunately PRTG is not open source so as they say we prefer to "eat our own dog food" if that makes sense and support open source when ever and where ever we can.

it will be used for our PMG, PVE, Network, clients etc.
