Simulate node outage

what's the best way to "simulate" a node outage, to test HA features, without pulling the power cord?

If you have a managed switch - set the port where the node is connected to down - or simply pull the network cable

Cluster is running on remote non-accessible hardware .. so no way to do anything physical.
Are there any central services I could kill?

Maybe lock the system via IP tables, only leaving possibility to connect via SSH from my management host!?

should also work -just make sure that the rules don't persist across a reboot
