Simple two server redundancy/failover with proxmox?

Hello everyone,

I have two dedicated servers (in different datacenters) that I wanted to setup redundancy/failover with. My preference would be to have a simple setup, even if that means I have to sacrifice some functionality. Would anyone be willing to explain, on a high level, what my options are?

A cluster is actively discouraged when servers are not located near each other. A cluster is unstable with only two nodes. Maybe setup a (virtual) PBS on both, have them backup every VM locally every hour (which is very quick when VMs are running) and sync to each other. You'll have to manually switch and restore VMs but you'll be mostly up to date and have off-site backups.

Syncing between servers sounds fine to me. Any ideas on what the manual switch would look like however? If I do it via DNS it would take a while to propagate. Thanks for your ideas.

I don't know. It was just a suggestion to have recent backups of the VMs/CTs readily available on the other site. I guess everything else you need to do manually and depends on your VMs/TCs. Maybe other people here can suggest more automated or more seamless solutions for your scenario?
