Should Metric Server be on the Node or a Container?

Been using Proxmox for a few months now, and gotta say I love it. But now I'm just catching up to where I left off when I ran everything on a server with no containers, or anything. And what I'm setting up now are the Metric servers, such as InfluxDB,, Prometheus, and the like. But it got me thinking, since in the UI Proxmox itself has a Metrics feature to forward to InfluxDB or Graphite, I was wondering, should I run the metric server, such as InfluxDB on the Node that runs Proxmox, or should I just stick to a container instead?

Just trying to get the best possible setup.

Hello,

the "best possible" is very different for a lot of people.

The common recommendation is to modify the host OS only if necessary to avoid interferences with the PVE software packages.

Put it in a Container or in a VM!

And "more better" is to put the monitoring server on a different Hardware host - to have monitoring actually available if the proxmox host fails! This could be a small NUC-class system or perhaps a Raspberry Pi...

Just my 2€¢
