Hi Everyone,

I'm new, installing Proxmox to run a File server and pf-sense with it's Squid Transparent Proxy extension.

I was running openmediavault with 3 x 4TB portable USB Data Drives (no RAID).
Should I remove these while installing Proxmox just to be sure I won't lose any data, and add them post-install?

Can I expect Proxmox to virtualize any attached disk space as it installs?

PVE won't format any disks without you telling it to do it. But if you want to protect the disks from user error, you could unplug them while installing.

What exactly do you mean? PVE won't create any virtual disks when installing. You will probably need to use disk passthrough later to bring your USB disks into the OMV VM: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Passthrough_Physical_Disk_to_Virtual_Machine_(VM)

Thanks Dunuin, that answers my queries. I see no harm in unplugging them during installation, especially as I'm new.
Adding them later can have it's issues as well I believe - if you don't want to wipe them - but that's another topic.
