So I just installed proxmox and am testing it out and one thing that I did instantly was to add a custom username since I hate logging in with root. Now when I tried to access shell with the custom username it asked me for login and password again. Is there a way to make it behave like root so I don't have to login every time I click on shell?

No that I know of. This has been asked before. There might already be such a feature request at https://bugzilla.proxmox.com.
