Hey! I'm new to Proxmox and so far having a great time using it.

Firstly, I currently have the default DNS configuration that came with my provider's installation template, I want to change it but am not able to change the DNS without picking a "search domain".

I have no clue what a search domain is, and several searches including looking into a few threads here didn't help much either. Can anyone tell me what to put there assuming my DNS servers are Google Public DNS? (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4)

Secondly, is setting up a firewall mandatory? After the installation finished I left the firewall as is and made no changes to it, assuming I don't want anything to be blocked, do I need to change anything? I want everything to work and nothing to be blocked for anyone.

Thanks,
Daniel

The search domain is used if the DNS query is not a complete FQDN. If you don't have a local domain, you can add something like "local".

The integrated PVE firewall is off by default. If enabled, there are default rules which allow the access from the local network. If you access the nodes from another network, you should first create rules to allow access from that network on the needed ports ( https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#_ports_used_by_proxmox_ve )

On the search domain I used my server's hostname, is that okay? (pve.example.com)

And thanks for your answer!
