Setup RAID 5 in Proxmox

Hello All!

I commented that I am new to Proxmox. I installed the Proxmox VE on an HP DL360 G10 server, the server has a RAID 5 configured with the HP Smart Array System but I try to add the RAID in the proxmox and the disk appears separate. How can I make that?

Looks like you have fake raid. better if you can configure that to a HBA - (IT Mode) and expose your disks directly to proxmox and use zfs - raidz to do a RAID 5

trust me its better than hardware raid

Also try to get yourself a SSD and add it as a cache to your pool. it will perform a lot better and ZFS likes to use a lot of RAM so remember to limit its use in sysctl or you will be left with less ram to run your VM

Yes ZFS works really nice. But not on HP Servers. We have really a lot of these servers. And if you set the Raidcontroller to HBA... sorry but it is not a real HBA. It makes trouble. After some Update server can't boot anymore... i have tested ZFS on some HP Servers, but no luck with. The other thing is... if you really build in an HBAcontroller like LSI XXX then it will work. Never tested with HP, HP is not a good choice for ZFS. Using HP with Hwraid and LVM-Thin work like a charm.

If you really would like to use ZFS, use Server from Thomas Krenn. They are certified.

I am considering an HP Z620 for a Proxmox server. With ZFS not working on HP servers I would like to do RAID 5 and LVM with three SSD drives. What brand and model are known to be reliable in this configuration? I am looking at these three drives but am open to other suggestions from the community. Thank you
