Hi all,

I need to config the following setup and would love your advise on the best practice:
I. Already configured:
1. ESXi host - 1U server, running VMs;
2. Veeam backup machine (with nowhere to write the backups to :), acting as a backup proxy - 1U server.
II. Have to be configured:
1. Proxmox host. 1U Supermicro server - 2xSSDs for the PVE (Zmirror); 4x3TB SAS for RaidZ2.

So I figured that the most reasonable thing to do is to add a Proxmox host to the "already configured" machines. That way I will have another host to create VMs, test functionalities, play with , etc. And I can "give" hdd space (only 1TB is needed) to the Veeam to write it's backups.
My question is what would be the best way to share the hdd space?
* nfs directly from the pve host? (Veeam can use nfs as target);
* samba from the pve host?;
* create a container (or a VM) with some sharing soft - open media vault for instance?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I would create a Container with a samba server.
This is easy to set up, has good performance, less overhead than a VM and better to manage than directly on the host
