[SOLVED] Setting up apcupsd failed, due to "unable to locate package" Error

HI all,

I have a test environment with
proxmox-ve: 8.2.0 (running kernel: 6.8.4-2-pve)
pve-manager: 8.2.2 (running version: 8.2.2/9355359cd7afbae4)

/etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian bookworm main contrib
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian bookworm-updates main contrib
# security updates
deb http://security.debian.org bookworm-security main contrib


Failing to install apcupsd for UPS integration.

root@test:~# apt-get install apcupsd
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package apcupsd

My target is, to install apcupsd directly on the PVE host.
The sources.list is untouched. I have the same config running at a customers environment, who want's to migrate from VMware to Proxmox.
While evaluating the migration, we aren't in buying a subscription. If migration will proceed, then the customer will subscribe.

So, if the sources.list is the problem. What repos, we have to include, to get the apcupsd working, without making Proxmox unstable?
Is there an alternative deamon for USB attached batteries ?

Hello Chris,

are you using the Proxmox no subscription repository?
Did you use apt full-upgrade for the last updates?
If there are no errors with the updates, always run apt update again before installing.
I have installed apcupsd many times and have never had a problem.
P.S. If you have one or more APC UPS with network connection, you can simply install the PCNS on the PVE. It works very well, especially in the multi UPS setup.

at the test system and at my customer, whe haven't changed repository settings. It's like out of the box.
The customer will subscribe, when everything will work as wanted

The non-subscription repo is added in sources, but no success:

root@test:~# cat /etc/apt/sources.list

If I do a full-upgrade, there is nothing new:

root@test:~# apt install apcupsd

Did you run apt update? Maybe it failed, because the enterprise repository is enabled by default? Maybe that's why packages can't be found? Maybe try disabling the enterprise repository and running apt update first?

EDiT: Apologies if you already checked this, but what is the output of apt update, which refreshes the list of installable packages?

Dear all, problem solved. The DNS has not been set up. So everything fine, now.
Shame on me

Maybe we should delete this thread, because there is nothing wrong with any repository, at any way. Google matches to this thread would only be missleading.
