hi,

Does anyone has experiences with the

Dell server type PowerEdge R200
Processor Intel QUAD Core Xeon 3220 2,4 Ghz
Harddisk 2 x 250 Gig of 2 x 1000 Gig Raid card 3-Ware 8006-2
Raid config Raid-1
Is Proxmox fully supported?
I'd like to have my ISP put it on my dedicated servers but need to be sure everything works.

Kindly regards

I have used other 3ware sata raid with proxve with very good success. I've also had positive experience with dell gear in general for linux support (ie, in terms of CPU/Chipset/NIC being well behaved). PE1950 for example is a great linux box. Alas I haven't specifically used the r200 so I can't say for certain. The usual rule, if it works with Debian (upon which ProxVE is based) then it should be fine.

Any chance you can physically test install before getting the gear out to the hosting provider ? Or do you have no physical access ?

ah well - at least you have the benefit that ProxVE is a brain-dead easy install :-)

so long as they are capable of doing 3ware hardware raid config suitable for your deployment.

Certainly they should be able to get the base platform installed in <30minutes, enough to get remote access up - from there you should be able to remote in and start testing.. and I'll be surprised if it does not work.

or - if it fails - it will be *really* obvious - ie, the 3ware raid vols simply won't be detected; and the installer will complain, "no hard drive to install to".

Good luck,

Tim

I can't claim experience with your exact setup ... however, I have successfully used Proxmox VE with Dell T300, RAID5. Works perfectly so far.

I've also deployed PVE on a "home-built" server using the 3ware 8006-2. Also works well.

My guess is that it will work just fine for you.

Just installed to a Dell poweredge 2900 ... no problems so far - initial setup took about 15 minutes. Now I need to convince it to talk to my Dell MD1000 SAN, which is a little harder as Im a unix newbie.
