Server partitioning

OMV will run fine with just 2 vCPUs. PVE with 2 cores. then you got 44 vCPUs for your windows server VM. If your Win really needs that much performance for compiling or what ever thats fine. But with VMs that idle most of the time, you usually run out of RAM first.
windows server will be rarely used, from 1 user, 4 cores will be more than enough, the rest of the cores will be unused

Thats what we are trying to say. You got way to much CPU power. The more CPUs you have, the more electricity it will consume. And the CPUs with more cores also need more electricity than those with fewer cores. Not sure if the electricity prices are in italy are as insane as here, but adding 50 more watt at idle would mean 250€ additional maintenance costs per year.
 
in Italy electricity costs a lot, do you recommend disassembling a processor?
If you don't need the CPU performance and only up to half of your RAM sockets are populated and you don't need all the PCIe slots, then removing one CPU would be an option so safe some electricity.
 
Also using low power CPUs is another way to reduce the overall power consumption, but maybe out of the scope.

I converted all my "real" servers to "on demand" and use lower power equivalents for everything else that is not running 24/7.

Do you see any difference in consumption between a low voltage version xeon and a normal, but underclocked, xeon? Underclocking a Xeon is easy from Linux. But not sure if it is possible at all to also undervolt a xeon. At least I wasn't able to find such a setting in any of my server's BIOSes.

I have deliberately disabled any power savings for Xeons due to problems in the past, so I really don't know.
 
My processors are low power, TDP 65W
Before disassembling 1 processor, I have to evaluate the real consumption.
I'm waiting for the ups and then I install everything.

I would suspect at least 250W. The whole system besides the CPU is also suprisingly "hungry".
