Hey folks!
I'm going to include some backstory in case there's a relevant detail here; skip to the next section for the meat and potatoes. I'm quite new to Linux and the more technical side of computing, but I build and tinker with enough things to get myself into trouble (recently switched from windows to Fedora and love it though!). About a year ago I decided I wanted a media server/NAS and had some spare parts lying around so I built a small PVE server, running TrueNAS Scale (in a VM) and Jellyfin (LXC). I've been running the OS and VMs on a mirror of some old laptop HDDs and had to swap one out drive early on due to failure. I threw a cheap HBA in it and hooked up a mirror of two 16tb reconditioned enterprise drives and it's worked well for many months. Recently I had to swap out a 16tb hdd and threw in two 10tb drives in a mirror to expand the TrueNAS pool, things worked fine. I went into TrueNAS a couple weeks ago and changed update trains to the latest release version, and it worked fine.
A couple days ago, Jellyfin couldn't access TrueNAS, I restarted the VM and it worked for a while then crapped out again. It was just not responsive. It seemed that there was an issue with an EFI boot something or another, I did a quick search and found what looked like it would work and created a new EFI boot thing (again, I'm not entirely sure what I was doing, but it made sense at the time). This seemed to fix it and TrueNAS booted and stayed stable for a couple days, we even watched some TV on it last night. But tonight when we go to watch our stories, nothing responds. I try loggin in to Proxmox to see if maybe I need to just restart and I couldn't access the interface on any computer (hard line and WiFi). I couldn't see anything on the server monitor either, so I did a hard reset. When it came back online, I still couldn't access the GUI. It went through the usual booting text, a couple of [FAILED] things flew by, but I'm not sure what they were. Then I get to the login on the terminal, the part where it usually posts the webUI IP address isn't there though. So I log in as root, and nothing.
I just know some basic comands and I can look around in the directories, but I don't know what I'm doing or what I need to look for. The interface is responding to basic pings from my main PC, so we know the ethernet card is doing something at least. I don't hear any busted HDD sounds. Where do I start to diagnose this? Thanks in advance!
A note for replies, please be specific about how to do things like the full paths for files, what commands to use to view things, etc. I'm still very new to this and get lost quickly.
