Dear Forum,
Currently I can, from the Web Interface, enter the Server shell with no prompt for a password or username.
I would like to know, how I could activate a Login/Password for the Server Console Shell.
Can someone help me out?

Ok, so when I have passed the Web UI login, I can access the server shell without further user/password. That feels a little bit inconsistent to me. For accessing a VM or Container via Web UI, I need the authenticate, but for the shell of the under laying Server not.

You had to enter a correct username+password when you opened the Web Gui, didn't you? So - if you log in as root - you are already authenticated and can work on this machine as... root.

Please note also that this works only for users@pam by default. As soon as you switch to a user@pve (for example) the root shell window of the Web Gui will ask for a username+password.

Thank you. It was my fault. I ignored, that Iam working as root.

For containers, you can login as root automatically without authentication using pct enter or setting the Console Mode to shell (and then it also works via the web GUI).
