Scaling Strategies for New Proxmox Backup Server

Hello everyone,

I'm new to using Proxmox Backup Server (PBS) and I'm currently planning out my storage strategy. Given that storage needs will inevitably increase over time, I'm wondering about the best approach to scaling PBS.

What do experienced users recommend? Is it more common to expand storage by adding more JBODs into infinity, or do users typically set up additional Proxmox Backup Servers as their storage needs grow? I'm looking for insights on how to keep the setup manageable and sensible in the long run.

I'd use a ZFS pool and keep adding disks. Obviously a second PBS instance would still make sense as a offsite backup (https://pbs.proxmox.com/docs/storage.html#the-3-2-1-rule-with-proxmox-backup-server)!
